Summer Internship
Robert H. Schaffer and Associates (RHS&A) is looking for full-time interns to support its World Bank funded international development work during the summer of 2006. Based on our needs, interns will be assigned to support the implementation of programs focused on public health, education, or rural development in Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, or Sierra Leone.
Responsibilities: The intern will support capacity-building activities targeted to a diverse group of national government, local government, and community actors who have mobilized to tackle urgent national challenges.
More specifically, the intern will support the participatory development, implementation and evaluation of challenging short-term initiatives, using the Rapid Results Approach - a methodology develop! ed by RHS&A. The intern will lead participatory workshops on the Rapid Results Approach to community stakeholders and to specific Rapid Results teams; facilitate the goal setting, action plan development, and monitoring & evaluation of individual Rapid Results teams; provide mentorship to local consultants supporting this work, and foster cooperative partnerships with key implementation partners.
Airfare and stipend: RHS&A will provide airfare and a modest living stipend.
Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate excellent written & oral communication and management skills in diverse settings and cultures.
Professional experience in developing countries is strongly preferred.
Applicants must demonstrate flexibility and ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team. Relevant work experience in community development is preferred. Proficiency in foreign languages is preferred, especially French, Spanish, P! ortuguese and Arabic.
